“I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

She sat across from me, exhausted but holding it together the way so many women do. Capable. Responsible. The one everyone else depends on.

“I think it’s just stress,” she said. “Work is busy. Life is full. I should be able to handle it.”

Then she paused.

“…but I don’t feel like myself anymore.”

I can’t tell you how many women sit across from me and say some version of that. Often, they’re already noticing signs their body is under stress—they just don’t realize what they mean.

You’ve Been Told This Is Normal

If you’re here, there’s a good chance you’ve already tried to explain what you’re feeling.

You’ve said things like:

  • “I’m just tired all the time.”
  • “My anxiety is worse lately.”
  • “I can’t focus like I used to.”
  • “I feel off… but I don’t know how to explain it.”

And more often than not, the response has been:

  • “It’s stress.”
  • “It’s your age.”
  • “Your labs look fine.”
  • “You just need to relax.”
  • or a quick pivot to a prescription without much exploration of why you feel this way

For some people, medication can be an important and appropriate part of care.

But when it becomes the only explanation—or the first and final step—it can leave you feeling unseen… and still searching for answers.

So you try.

You try to rest more.
You try to manage your schedule.
You try to push through.

And when it doesn’t work, you start to wonder if maybe it really is you.

Let me say this gently:

What you’re experiencing may be common… but that doesn’t make it normal.

And it doesn’t mean you’re broken.

What If This Isn’t Just Stress?

Stress is real. It impacts everything—your sleep, your hormones, your energy, your mood.

But stress doesn’t operate in isolation.

Your body has to process it.
Your brain has to respond to it.

And that response depends on whether your system is supported… or stretched too thin.

So what if what you’re feeling isn’t just stress…

…but a brain that’s under-supported trying to keep up with the life you’re living?

That shift matters.

Because now we’re not talking about “trying harder to relax.”

We’re asking a different question:

What does your body need in order to feel steady again?

5 Signs Your Body Is Under Stress (And Asking For Support)

These aren’t random symptoms. They’re patterns I see every day—signals, not failures.

1. You Feel Wired… But Exhausted

You’re tired all day, but at night your mind won’t slow down.

Or you push through on adrenaline and caffeine, only to crash later.

This is often your stress response system doing its best to keep up—without enough support to recover.

2. Your Mood Feels Unpredictable

You’re not typically reactive, but lately things feel… closer to the surface.

More irritability.
More anxiety.
Less margin.

This isn’t about willpower.

It can reflect underlying shifts in how your brain is regulating mood—often influenced by nutrients, blood sugar, and overall load.

3. You Rely on Caffeine, Sugar, or Wine to Get Through

Morning coffee to function.
Something sweet to push through the afternoon.
Something in the evening to take the edge off.

These patterns are incredibly common—and they’re not random.

They’re often your body’s way of trying to stabilize energy and mood with quick, temporary support.

4. Brain Fog and Poor Focus Are Becoming Normal

You lose words.
Forget why you walked into a room.
Struggle to concentrate.

And it’s frustrating—because this isn’t how you used to feel.

In many cases, this comes back to function, not failure.

Your brain needs consistent fuel and support to stay clear.

5. You Don’t Feel Like Yourself Anymore

This is the one I hear most often.

“I’m here… but I’m not really me.”

Less joy.
Less motivation.
Less connection to your life.

And underneath it, a quiet question:
“Is this just what happens now?”

No.

When these signs your body is under stress show up together, they’re often pointing to deeper imbalances—not just a busy schedule.

What’s Happening Beneath the Surface (Without Overcomplicating It)

Woman connected mind and body

We don’t need a deep dive into biochemistry to understand this—we just need a few key connections.

Blood Sugar: Your Brain’s Stability System

When blood sugar is steady, your brain feels steady.

When it’s not, you may feel:

  • anxious
  • shaky
  • irritable
  • foggy

This can make stress feel louder than it actually is.

Nutrients: What Your Brain Runs On

Your brain relies on nutrients to produce and regulate the chemicals that affect mood, focus, and calm.

When those are depleted, your brain works harder with less support.

That can look like anxiety, low mood, poor sleep, or feeling overwhelmed more easily.

The Gut-Brain Connection

Your gut and brain are constantly communicating.

When digestion is off, it can influence how you feel mentally and emotionally.

This is why things like bloating, reflux, or irregular digestion often show up alongside anxiety or fatigue.

They’re connected.

Where Medication Fits (And Where It Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story)

This is an important place to slow down for a moment.

For some people, medication is a helpful and necessary part of care. It can create stability, provide relief, and support healing.

But it doesn’t answer every question.

It doesn’t explain:

  • why your energy is unstable
  • why your mood fluctuates
  • why your brain feels foggy
  • or why you don’t feel like yourself

And when those pieces aren’t explored, it’s easy to feel like you’re managing symptoms… without truly understanding them.

This isn’t about choosing between approaches.

It’s about recognizing that your body may need additional support, not just symptom management.

This Doesn’t Mean You’re Broken

It means your body is communicating.

It’s saying:
“I need steadiness.”
“I need support.”
“I can’t keep compensating at this pace.”

And the fact that you’re noticing?

That matters.

Because awareness is often the first step toward real change.

Where Do You Start Without Getting Overwhelmed?

Woman taking first steps

This is where most women feel stuck.

Because now you’re asking:
“If this isn’t just stress… what do I actually do?”

You don’t need to do everything.

You need to understand:

  • where your body is out of balance
  • what your biggest stressors actually are (internally, not just externally)
  • and what will help your system stabilize

Not guesswork. Not generic plans.

Clarity.

A Word About All the “Stress Solutions” Out There

There are more tools than ever:

  • wearables that track stress
  • apps for calming your nervous system
  • supplements promising quick relief
  • online therapy platforms

Some of these can be helpful supports.

But they don’t replace understanding your body.

They don’t tell you why your system is struggling—or what it specifically needs to feel better.

And without that understanding, it’s easy to keep trying things… without seeing lasting change.

You’re Not Alone in This

Many of the women I work with come in feeling:

  • dismissed
  • confused
  • frustrated
  • quietly discouraged

They’ve tried to do the right things.

They’ve followed the advice.

And they’re still not feeling like themselves.

What changes things isn’t doing more.

It’s finally understanding what’s going on—and having a plan that fits their body.

That’s when things begin to shift.

Not overnight.

But steadily.

If You’re Ready for the Next Step

If you’ve been noticing these signs your body is under stress, it may be time to look a little deeper.

This is exactly the work I do.

We look at what your body is telling us—your symptoms, your patterns, your history—and when needed, we use targeted tools to understand it more clearly.

From there, we build a plan that supports your brain and body together.

If you’ve been feeling off…
If “just stress” doesn’t feel like the full story…

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

You’re always welcome to reach out, ask questions, or start a conversation. No pressure—just a place to begin.

Because sometimes the shift isn’t about doing more…

…it’s about finally understanding what your body has been trying to say.

Rooted in the belief that your body was designed with purpose—and that with the right support, steadiness and clarity are possible again.
